Vijayanagara Water Supply System
BRIEF HISTORY:The stone aqueduct and its branches in Royal Enclosure form part of an elaborate water supply scheme for the citadel. The first branch at the eastern end of the aqueduct turns southwards (runs on a wall) and supplies water to the great tank or large public bath. The second branch in the middle of the aqueduct is a supply chute to the stepped tank. At the western end, this aqueduct branches into two conduits, which further branch into smaller conduits and supply water to a number of tanks. These small conduits still survive in a disturbed state throughout the enclosure.
